Valparaíso is the second largest city in Chile. A 1.5 hour bus ride from Santiago will spit you out in the middle of this costal city, where the weather is cooler with a fresh ocean breeze. We popped over for a few hours one afternoon with my sister, so this will be a short post.

FOOD

We found a nice restaurant called La Fauna that had a great view of the city and the ocean. Surprise, surprise, we ate more amazing fish! I had ceviche and Samuel had the catch of the day; both were reineta, a Chilean whitefish. This tasty meal was followed by an ooey, gooey chocolate cake and strawberry sorbet.

PLACES

There are several plazas in Valparaíso that are filled with vendors, restaurants, and green spaces to sit.

The best thing about this city by far, is the street art. It’s everywhere, and it’s amazing. So far, we haven’t felt very much culture shock in South America. But when you go to a place as vibrant as Valparaíso, it really does feel like an exotic, far away place. These were some of our favorites:
