Hello! We are Samuel and Sydney Freitag. Recently, we decided to up and quit our jobs to travel around the world. Our friends and family have all requested a blog, so here it is. Samuel enjoys taking pictures so they will mostly be his, and I, despite my limited literary skills, will be doing most of the writing.

I’ll provide a little background for those of you that don’t know us very well. We’re both from Wisconsin and met as undergrads at the University of Wisconsin where I was studying Geology and Geophysics, and Samuel was studying Geology and Geological Engineering. After graduating, we moved to Arizona to work in copper mining, and were married shortly after. While living in the Phoenix area, we learned a lot about mining and met some great people, but had a very hard time acclimating to the desert. After 5 years, we decided it was a time for a change, and that it was time to see the world.

Our idea to travel for a year came about rather spontaneously, but we both instantly knew it was the right choice for us. In fact, apart from the stress that comes with resigning from a job and knowing how much we will miss everyone, neither of us have had very much apprehension about becoming full-time travelers. Perhaps that’s because we don’t have very much travel experience and don’t really know what we’re doing, but I’m going to assume it’s because it’s a lifestyle that will suit us well for a while.

We will do our best to stay in touch with you all, but if we are unable to talk as much as we’d like, we hope you enjoy following our adventures on Two Birds Abroad!
